The first step in joining Troop 232 is to visit one of our weekly meetings. Troop 232 meets at Cary Presbyterian Church every Tuesday at 7:00 pm during the school year. During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we are meeting outdoors, social distancing, and wearing masks when indoors. Just show up and introduce yourself and your child to one of our leaders in uniform.
You can also email the Scoutmaster if you have any other questions about the troop. Parents can request more information about Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and Troop 232 by providing their information HERE.
Once your child is ready to officially join Troop 232, the next step for parents is to log into or create an account on my.Scouting.org.
This is how we mass communicate with each other day-in and day-out. Important updates are emailed to the group as soon as they are submitted. Our Scoutmaster typically sends out a weekly email update to members of the Google Group.
Your email address should have been added when you joined the troop. However, sometimes the best-laid plans go awry. Things like changing your email address can cause issues, or maybe you just need to add another address. Either way, we are here for you. Please email the Group Administrator to make changes, or to join the group. You will need to include your name and your Scout's name.
This is an invitation-only, closed group. Adult leaders, parents, current Scouts, and alumni Scouts are allowed to participate in the Troop 232 Google Group discussions and to receive emails.
Some of us use Facebook to share photos and send updates out. If you are a Facebook user, request access to the Troop 232 Cary NC Facebook Group where someone will validate your identity. We restrict who can join our Facebook Group to protect everyone's privacy and security as best we can.
In addition to the weekly Scoutmaster email, our Scouts use Discord to send updates out. We restrict who can join our Discord server to protect everyone's privacy and security as best we can. If you and/or your Scout would like to join our server, email our Scoutmaster and we will send you an invitation link to our server on Discord.
Parents can track their Scout's rank advancement and merit badge completion progress by logging into Scoutbook. BSA also offers a free Scouting mobile app, which syncs with Scoutbook. The Scouting app is available for both iPhone and Android devices from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
As is the case with all BSA programs, we are in constant need of parental volunteers willing to become trained, wear the Scout uniform, and be a valuable member of our troop. We need parents to serve as Assistant Scoutmasters, Troop Committee Members, and/or Merit Badge Counselors.
Per the BSA Guide to Safe Scouting, "All adults accompanying a Scouting unit who are present at the activity for 72 total hours or more must be registered as leaders. The 72 hours need not be consecutive." Registering as an Adult Leader requires the completion of a BSA Adult Application, Youth Protection Training every 2 years, and an initial criminal background check.
Come to a meeting and ask for more information. We are happy to provide you with the information you need to get started. No Scouting experience is required. To get started as an Adult Leader, you can complete Youth Protection Training online, print off a BSA Adult Application, and turn it into one of the troop's Key 3 Members (Scoutmaster, Troop Committee Chair, and Chartered Organization Representative).
